Newlywed woman dies days after falling from second floor

Police said on Sunday that a newlywed woman died days after she allegedly fell from the second floor of her living quarters at Bees Hospital here.

The deceased was identified as Kavita Kumari, 26, from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, who suffered severe head injuries in a fall on March 26 and succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital here on Saturday.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Bhagwan Das, police arrested her husband, Rajat Kumar, and her mother, Lalita Devi, both residents of Kangra, on charges of dowry death.

Bhagwan Das told police that his daughter got married to Rajat Kumar about five months ago. She was a nurse at Della Bees Hospital. He said she received a call from Mr. Rajat five days ago informing her that her daughter had fallen from the second floor and was seriously injured.

She alleged that Mr. Rajat was harassing her for dowry and was demanding money from them as well.

Inspector Gurmit Singh of Beas police station said a case was registered under IPC section 304-B ​​and two accused were arrested.
