The first meeting of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) held here today discussed ways to strengthen ties between the US and Amritsar and attract investment to the region.

USISPF partners with 400 of the world’s top 500 companies, many of which have investments in India. This event was organized in collaboration with FICCI.

USISPF Chairman and CEO Mukesh Agi, addressing the inaugural session, said that many US-based companies are keen to invest in Amritsar.

Agi said former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu had invited them to Amritsar. “With the rapid development of India-US relations, the relations between the US and Amritsar will also strengthen. While interacting with the young people here today, we were able to know their sentiments. They want to do a lot and move forward in life. We need to provide them with a skilled education to empower them,” Agi said.

Sandhu, who is also a BJP candidate in Amritsar Lok Sabha, said the private sector will be strengthened in Amritsar. He encouraged the participants, saying, “We will work together. Your dreams will definitely come true.”

He also assured them that there is a need to revive the sports sector in Amritsar and attract the private sector to Amritsar.

Sandhu also promised enhanced air connectivity, opening of a US consulate and international trade opportunities for Amritsar.

Shailesh Pathak, Director General, FICCI, said there is a need for young people to acquire skills to advance globally.
