Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla appealed to the Election Commission to prepare a report on drug addicts at the booth level to curb drug addiction in the state. Aujla expressed sadness over the killing of three members of a family by a drug addict in Kadwari village of Ajnala in Amritsar district.

To end drug addiction, Mr Aujla appealed to the Election Commission to prepare a report on people affected by drug addiction at the booth level along with the electoral roll. The lawmaker claimed that he had also raised the issue of drug abuse in Sabah. He also emphasized that when people become addicted to drugs, their families are the first targets. A drunken person does not die alone, but his entire family. In 2022, he called for the creation of an anti-drug education curriculum for schoolchildren. “The Ajnara incident is highly condemnable. It is tragic that the son of a family murdered his mother, sister-in-law and nephew. This incident has shaken the entire Punjab. I stand against drug addiction. We have been working on the ground. At times, I shared the reality on the ground with the prime minister and officials through letters, but to no avail,” Aujla said.

He said he would now appeal to the Election Commission to take cognizance of the incident and prepare a report on drug addicts at the booth level.
