Amritsar police arrest peddler with 1kg heroin

Gate Hakima police seized 1 kg of heroin from a drug peddler, identified as Sucha Singh alias Sukha (25) of Kanwar village in Ajnara.

He was announced as a self-proclaimed criminal in a drug case registered by Ajnara police in December 2023. In this case, the police arrested his sister Kulwant Kaur and her neighbor Gopi with 4 kg of heroin.

Giving details, Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Brar and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Darpan Ahluwalia said the suspect was arrested at a checkpoint near Radha Krishan Colony.

‚ÄúSucha Singh was in direct contact with Pakistan-based drug traffickers. He secretly stole the contraband via drone and used pre-determined coordinates sent via WhatsApp by Pak-based groups. and recovered the same,” the police commissioner said. He further added that he also delivered the same to an unidentified secondary courier, keeping the entire nexus anonymous.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Darpan Ahluwalia said they used to receive a fee of Rs 100,000 per kilogram of contraband. Preliminary investigation revealed that he had recovered around 60-70 kg of contraband so far. She said he has several criminal cases registered by the Amritsar district police, including snatching, theft and illegal sand mining.

ADCP Darpan Ahluwalia said further investigation is on to identify the accomplices of the illegal transaction. She said efforts to freeze his assets would be initiated after seeking permission from the competent authorities in Delhi.
