On Wednesday, several trains were diverted or rescheduled due to the rail roko protest by farmers at the Shambhu border, causing inconvenience to rail passengers there.

According to information released by the railway authorities, the schedule of trains from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri and Amritsar to Jaynagar has been rescheduled.Furthermore, the railway authorities have changed the routes of trains between Amritsar-Katiar, Pathankot-Old Delhi, Amritsar-Mumbai, Amritsar-Tatanagar, Amritsar-Saharsa, Jammu Tawi-Sealdah, Pureakot-Amritsar, Kolkata-Amritsar, Nanded-Amritsar, Indore-Amritsar and New Delhi-Amritsar.

“We had announced to block the railways on April 9 but postponed it to April 10 as the Haryana government had assured that all three farmer leaders would be released. Later, we again postponed our protest on the railway tracks as the Haryana government had assured that all three leaders would be released by April 16. Today is April 17 and hence we have started our protest on the railway tracks,” the farmer leader said.

Along with the BJP, the farmers have decided to question leaders of other political parties too to clarify their stand on the farmers’ issue, said Sarwan Singh Pandair, general secretary of Kisan Mazdur Sangharsh Committee.

The KMSC said notice boards with questions to be asked to leaders of the BJP and other political parties have been set up in all villages and towns in the district.
