Murder suspect threatens victim’s brother from Amritsar Central Jail

A murder suspect lodged in Amritsar Central Jail called the victim’s family and threatened them not to give a statement against him and his accomplices in court.

The incident came to light after the victim’s brother filed a complaint with the Katunangal police. Police have registered a fresh FIR against accused doctor Manjinder Singh alias Gagana under IPC sections 195-A (threatening to furnish false evidence) and 506 (criminal intimidation) .

The complainant, Manjit Singh, alleged that his brother Kanwaljit Singh, a former army man and resident of Ramdiwali Hindua village, was shot and seriously injured by two unidentified armed assailants on March 9. . He later passed away on March 15 at a private hospital.

During investigation, the police arrested Manjinder and Meharpreet Singh alias Tidda and alias Rajat of Ramdiwali Hindu village.

Manjit said he received a phone call from Manjinder on April 9, threatening him not to give a statement in court.

He said Mr Manjinder had warned them that they too would face the same consequences that Mr Kanwaljit had faced.

Investigating officer ASI Ajit Singh said the suspects would be brought in on production warrants to probe the matter.
