In a horrifying incident, a pregnant woman was set on fire by her husband in Punjab on Friday after an argument.

Police said the 23-year-old woman, who was six months pregnant, died at the scene.

Police said the couple had a heated argument on Friday, after which the man tied Pinky, who is pregnant with twins, to a bed and set her on fire in a fit of rage.

The incident was reported from Brenangal village near Amritsar on Friday.

“Sukhdev and Pinky had a strained relationship and used to quarrel over various issues. On Friday too, the two had a heated argument after which Sukhdev killed Pinky and fled,” officials said. .

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought a detailed report from the Punjab Police. “Shocked by the horrific incident in Amritsar where a man allegedly set his pregnant wife on fire. The brutality of this act is unimaginable. NCW Chairman @sharmarekha will arrest the culprits and submit an action report. We have written a letter to DGP Punjab to “#StopdomesticViolence within 3 days,” the Women’s Commission said on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Sukhdev was on the run after the incident, but was arrested by police late last night. “A case has been registered and investigation is underway,” officials said.
