Two groups clash in front of Immigration Office in Amritsar

Police arrested 11 people and recovered one pistol and 22 live ammunition in connection with the firing incident outside the Immigration Department office in Ranjit Road area here yesterday. Several people were injured in the incident.

Financial troubles between the Immigration Bureau and the client were cited as the cause of the argument that led to the dismissal. The incident has raised questions about the law and order situation in the city even as a model code of conduct has been implemented in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Prabhjot Singh Virk said police received information that two groups clashed and fired at each other near Hartei Hospital in Ranjit Road area yesterday afternoon.

“Initially, there was information that it was a gang war, but it later turned out to be a rumor. Police have filed a case of attempted murder under the Arms Act and have launched an investigation in this regard,” ADCP said.

During the investigation, police identified and arrested the suspects involved in the incident. Those arrested are Arshdeep Singh of Dera Baba Nanak, Balhar Singh of Jetwal, Bashitar Singh and Navdeep Singh of Chawinda Karan, Surjit Singh of Rose Avenue and Malkeet Singh of Ajnara. was identified.

Among the protesting group, the arrested suspects are Akashdeep Singh of Ramdas, Ajaydeep Singh of Jajahani, Jaspal Singh of Manga Sarai village, Rajinder Singh alias Rajan Gill of Katania; He was identified as Atindapal Singh Tikka of Rasulpur Kalan. Meanwhile, Lovejeet Singh, Umedh Singh, Gurbir Singh (alias Sarpanch), Arshdeep Singh (alias Aujra) and others are yet to be arrested.

The incident caused panic among residents. Mr Burke said raids were being carried out to arrest the remaining suspects.
