Two young men broke into a businessman’s house in downtown Ramdas and tried to loot it, but were overpowered by his family and handed over to the police. The third accomplice managed to flee the scene.

The arrested persons were identified as Jagroop Singh, a resident of Padda village, and Amandeep Singh, a resident of Shapur Jajan village in Dera Baba Nanak.

Initial investigation revealed the suspect had no criminal history. They attempted theft after their financial situation deteriorated.

Gaurav Kasia, a resident of Ramdas, told the police that he runs an SBI Grahak Seva Kendra in the town. When he returned to his home after the center closed on Tuesday evening, the suspects followed him. When Cassia entered the home, the suspects also entered the property and attempted to snatch a bag containing cash at the end of a pistol.

But Cassia stood up to them. Family members including his brother Arun, his wife and mother also rushed to the scene and subdued the suspects. Neighbors also arrived at the house. The two suspects were handed over to the police, but the accomplice fled the scene.

Police recovered a plastic toy handgun from the suspect’s possession. Investigation Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Grikbal Singh said the two were arrested in court and remanded in police custody for further investigation.

The IO said that as per preliminary investigation, both the suspects were childhood friends. Ja Group used to run a medical store, but it suffered losses. “The loss at the medical store forced him to rob the owners of SBI Grahak Seva Kendra. They conducted reconnaissance of the center before attempting to rob Kasia on Tuesday night.” said the IO. The court sent the duo to three-day police remand and further investigation is on, the IO added.
