Man killed over property dispute in Majitha: Police

A property dispute turned ugly last night after a man was shoved and stabbed to death in Majita area here. The defendants included the victim’s brother’s son-in-law and his relatives.

The deceased was identified as Jaira (38) of Casa Pati Ward 3, Majita. Following a complaint filed by the deceased’s wife Baljit Kaur, the police arrested Sonu, Chaba Kavalia, Arsh of Nag Kalan village and Devi of Majitha, besides unidentified persons.

Baljit Kaur told police that her husband used to work as a laborer and that her brother Ravekul Singh had passed away.

According to her, Ravel’s daughter Kavita is married to Sonu and lives in a share of (Ravel’s) property. She claimed that she often argued with her husband over his share of her property.

She alleged that on Wednesday night, when her husband had just come out of the house, Sonu along with other accomplices attacked him with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries. She said she raised the alarm after the defendant fled the scene.

She said they rushed her to Majitha Public Hospital, from where she was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where doctors on arrival declared her dead.

Sub-inspector Manohar Lal said a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the suspects and raids are being conducted to arrest them.

“The defendants had fled their home and a search was being carried out to arrest them,” he said.
