2-day exhibition “AURA 2024” held at Guru Nanak Dev University


Amritsar: The two-day exhibition ‘AURA 2024’ was organized by the Faculty of Lifelong Learning, Guru Nanak Dev University and was inaugurated by Professor (Dr.) Shweta Shenoy, Department of Sports Science and Medicine, GNDU-MYAS. Director General Anupam Kaur welcomed the chief guest with flowers followed by lighting of lamps.

She expressed keen interest in the articles produced by the students and appreciated their efforts. She was of the opinion that her students should be encouraged to become entrepreneurs and even sell their own products from time to time. She emphasized on spreading awareness of the traditional arts and crafts taught to village students so that more students can take courses run by the department. She was of the opinion that a different method of taking orders from the public should be adopted so that the students making the products could earn money while learning. She showed great interest in the articles designed by the students. She interacted with the students and congratulated the students as well as the teachers for their wonderful presentations and highly appreciated the efforts of the students.

Director Prof. Anupam Kaur (PhD) apprised the guests about the department’s efforts to improve the skills of students. The department takes great efforts to organize short-term training programs and certificate/diploma courses throughout the year so that village students can benefit maximum. The purpose of the exhibition is to display and disseminate the skills that students have learned during their learning process. They learn different types of surface decoration techniques such as embroidery (phulkari, chikankari, Kashmiri, Gujarati kutch, etc.), tie-dyeing, batik, stencil printing, block printing, weaving, crocheting, etc. to create a variety of products . . Using these methods, they also make beautiful products such as bed sheets, cushion covers, coasters, trays, napkin holders, table mats with runners, salwar kameez, saris, etc. She made the guests aware that cosmetology students are equipped to learn a variety of techniques. Makeup, hair care, skin care, rebonding, nail art, mehandi, etc. Further hone your skills by holding workshops and seminars. A feature of our department is that we conduct a talent discovery program every year. After acquiring a lot of practical knowledge, students will demonstrate their creativity and artistry to meet the needs of the self-employed market.
