Amritsar district police on Thursday seized two trucks, a car and a tipper on charges of illegal sand mining and arrested four people in two separate cases.

DIG Border Zone Rakesh Kaushal and SSP Amritsar Rural Satinder Singh said police laid a naka on Punga Road in Ajnala and signaled tipper trucks to stop. The driver of the car fled, leaving behind a car full of dirt. The dump truck was carrying 1,000 cubic feet of sand. Police have registered a case against unidentified persons under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and further investigation is underway.

Similarly, the Rajasansi police seized two trucks (PB-02-EC-1567 and PB-12-Y-1901) and a car (PB-13-BD-3908) at the checkpoint. Police also identified four people who were in the car: Nirmal Singh of Goga village, Poona of Saran Dev village, Sarabjit Singh and his younger brother Hardeb Singh of Talwandi Rai Dadu village. I was arrested.

Each truck carried 800 cubic square feet of sand. On seeing the police team, one of the truck drivers fled from the spot. According to police, the two occupants of the car were conducting a recce to ensure the safe passage of the truck.

A case has been registered at the Rajasanshi police station in this connection and further investigation is on.
