Punjab Police seized 4 kg of ice drugs and 1 kg of heroin from Amritsar. 1 event held

The arrested suspect had direct contact with Park-based drug smugglers.

Amritsar, May 3, 2024: In an intelligence-led operation against a transnational drug smuggling network, Counterintelligence (CI) Amritsar recovered 4 kg of ICE narcotics (crystal methamphetamine) and 1 kg of heroin from their possession1 announced that a person had been arrested. Punjab Police (DGP) Director General Gaurav Yadav is here on Friday.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Avtar Singh, a resident of Kakkal village in Amritsar district.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following a credible information indicting Akhtar Singh, a drug consignment was recovered from Bhindi Saidan village in Ajnala and a police team from CI Amritsar led by DSP was located at Sher Shah Suri Road in Chekharta. He said he intended to deliver the shipment near Hargobind Road. CI Balbir Singh quickly conducted a raid at the designated location.

The police team arrested the suspect and recovered 4 kg of ICE narcotics and 1 kg of heroin from his possession, it added.

The DGP said that during the investigation, it was found that Avtar was in direct contact with drug smugglers based in Pakistan. The probe added that it also revealed that Pakistan-based drug smugglers were using drones to deliver this drug shipment across the border.

He said further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward links to uncover the entire network. Case FIR No. 26 dated May 2, 2024 was registered at SSOC Amritsar Police Station under Sections 21, 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Avtar Singh will appear before a local court where police will seek remand to extract vital information about other accomplices involved in this heinous drug deal.
