Robbery group arrested, 3 people detained

With the arrest of three people, city police on Monday claimed to have arrested a gang of robbers involved in the looting incident at gunpoint.

Police seized three .32 caliber domestic pistols and six bullets, one .315 caliber digi pistol, two live ammunition and a scooter from his possession.

Those arrested are Manpreet Singh, Pardeep Kumar (31) alias Mani of Fateh Singh Colony in Hoshiarpur, Kala Bapa (20) alias Fateh Singh of Bhai Manji Singh Road. He was identified as Joga Singh alias Billa (19) of Gate Hakimar, Colony. . Pardeep was the kingpin of the gang.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told a press conference here on Monday that Pardeep had procured country-made pistols from Madhya Pradesh for Rs 20,000 and sold them to youths for Rs 45,000. . He was luring vulnerable young people by flashing weapons on his social media accounts.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City 1) Dr Darpan Ahluwalia said the police had received specific information regarding the presence of robbers in Gate Hakima police station area. A special operation was launched behind the Baghtanwala grain market, following which the suspect was arrested by the Angul police chowki.

Investigation revealed that after committing the crime, Pardeep Kumar was hiding in rented accommodation in various districts including Tarun Taran, Hoshiarpur and Nawanshahr. He had eight criminal cases of robbery and snatching registered against him. He was declared a criminal in the Ludhiana robbery case. Two accomplices in the case, Gurpreet Singh and Jarnail Singh, had attempted to escape from Amritsar Central Jail in 2020 by breaking the barracks wall.
