Handbag snatcher arrested

City police today arrested a snatcher who snatched a handbag from a woman who was sitting outside a tea stall on Lawrence Road on Sunday. The arrested suspect has been identified as Amritpal Singh (37), a resident of Daburji Sultanwind Link Road in Amritsar. Police recovered the snatched woman’s handbag, motorcycle and Rs 2,500 in cash.

ACP North Varinder Singh Khosa said a team led by Civil Lines SHO Jasveer Singh successfully arrested the suspect who snatched the purse from the woman. According to information obtained, the female victim was sitting in a chair at a coffee shop adjacent to Goldie’s air conditioner repair shop. The suspect arrived on a bicycle and snatched her purse, which contained cash and valuables. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Civil Lines police station. A police team led by ASI identified the accused Amritpal Singh, a resident of Sultanwind Link Road in Amritsar, and arrested him along with the motorcycle used in the incident. The snatched wallet, mobile charger and Rs 2,500 in cash were recovered.

The defendant was brought to court today and is being detained and interrogated by police. A case under Sections 379-B and 473 of IPC was registered.
