Amritsar, May 11th

11,667 tonnes (MT) of wheat arrived at grain markets in the district on Saturday, taking the total wheat arrivals during the ongoing harvest season to 684,000 tonnes.

As the wheat harvest season draws to a close, the amount of wheat entering the grain market each day is also decreasing. At the peak of the harvest season, more than 50,000 tons of wheat arrived at the grain market each day.

Mandi committee officials said most of the produce currently reaching the grain market comes from farmers who had previously harvested it but were unable to bring it in for some reason. Officials said daily wheat arrivals will further decline over the next week.

Of the total crop that reached the mandis so far, 6.83 million tonnes had already been procured. Government agencies procured a total of 6.3 million tonnes of wheat, while the share of private buyers was 52,688 tonnes. Officials said on Saturday evening that only 1,062 tonnes remained unsold in the mandis.
