13 smugglers detained under cordon; search operations carried out in 4 border areas

Ahead of the 18th Lok Sabha elections, the Punjab Police today conducted a cordon and search operation (CASO) in four border districts and recovered a large quantity of moonshine and lahan (raw material for brewed liquor).

Police arrested 13 bootleggers in this connection and registered 17 FIRs in four districts. DIG Border Security Force Rakesh Kaushal said police conducted CASO operations in Amritsar (rural), Batala, Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts on Sunday and recovered a total of 287 liters of illicit liquor and 16,850 kg of lahan. Ta.

“Maximum quantity of 212 liters of illicit liquor was seized in Gurdaspur district and 12,200 kg of illicit liquor was recovered from Batala alone,” the DIG said, while in Batala, 45 liters of illicit liquor and 15 liters each were recovered. They were recovered from Amritsar (rural) and Pathankot districts, it added.

4,500 kg of lahan was recovered from Gurdaspur. 150 kg of lahan was recovered in Amritsar (rural).

Nine FIRs under the Excise Act were registered in Gurdaspur, followed by five in Batala, two in Pathankot and one in Amritsar (rural). In these cases, seven, four and two people were arrested in Gurdaspur, Batala and Pathankot respectively.

The DIG said residents are requested to share information about bootleggers and drug peddlers in their respective areas with the police so that untoward incidents can be avoided.

He said police were focused on cracking down on those involved in drug trafficking and illegal liquor smuggling that could be used to attract voters. He said anyone found involved would be punished.
