‘Vote for AAP and you won’t have to go back to jail’: Kejriwal in Amritsar

Chandigarh/Amritsar, May 16 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday appealed to people to vote for AAP if they do not want to go back to jail.

The AAP supremo, who held a roadshow for candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal in Punjab’s Amritsar, also claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party will end reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs if it wins a majority in Parliament.

Referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kejriwal said saffron party leaders have said that he will have to go to jail after 20 days.

“It’s up to you whether I go (back) to jail or not. If you press the ‘jadoo’ button (AAP’s election symbol), I don’t have to go to jail,” Kejriwal said.

“When you press the button, remember whether you are pressing the button for Mr. Kejriwal’s freedom or to send Mr. Kejriwal to jail,” the AAP chief said.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta on Thursday refused to consider the arguments and counterarguments of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Kejriwal’s advocates on the statement related to granting interim bail to the AAP chief.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the ED, took issue with Mr. Kejriwal’s speech in the polls that if people vote for AAP, he will not have to go back to jail on June 2.

On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail until June 1, the last day of his seven-term parliamentary election, and directed him to surrender and return to jail on June 2.

The Delhi Chief Minister was arrested on March 21st.

During his roadshow, Kejriwal attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party is re-elected, there will be no more elections in the country.

Mr. Kejriwal said he had come up with a complete plan, adding, “If we get a majority, we will end the reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs and complete the constitution.” These elections are not normal polls, he said.

“AAP is fighting against the BJP and that is why they are going after us,” Kejriwal said.

“They are putting big leaders in prison. But prison is not a problem for us. For us, the country and the constitution are the best,” he added.

Earlier, Kejriwal visited the state for the first time since being granted interim bail and offered prayers at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

He also paid homage to the temple of Druziana. P.T.I.
