CEO seeks report after man injured in firing near assembly election rally in Amritsar, Punjab

A man was injured in a firing incident near a polling rally for Congress candidate Gurjit Singh Aujla, prompting the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to seek a police report in the matter.

Police said five people opened fire. The incident was said to be unrelated to the election rally as it occurred in a location away from the rally.

Ajnara Shaw Balbir Singh said the victim has been identified as Lovely, who was planning to attend a parliamentary election rally when she was attacked about 100 yards from the rally venue. He said it was.

Police said five suspects have been identified; three are residents of Ajnara village and the remaining two are outsiders and there is a possibility of personal enmity.

The SHO said a police team was dispatched to arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shivin C sought a report from the DGP on the Ajnala firing incident.

Following a complaint from Amritsar candidate Gurjit Singh Aujla of the Nationalist Congress Party, the CEO has written to the DGP to submit a fact-based report at the earliest for the knowledge of the Election Commission.

In a separate letter, the CEO asked the district election officer and deputy commissioner, Amritsar, to immediately look into the matter and sought an action report.
