Three people arrested for gang rape of 17-year-old student

Four days ago, a 17-year-old student was allegedly gang-raped in Ajnala area here. However, a complaint was lodged with the police yesterday and three people were arrested in this connection.

Those arrested included Gopi of Ajnala, a neighbor of the victim, besides two unknown accomplices. A case under Sections 376-D (Gang Assault) and 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act was registered against them.

Police said no arrests have been made so far as the main suspect fled from the home.

The victim told police that the suspect called him when he arrived near the school on May 13. The victim said he stopped because he knew him. She said a man approached her and asked her to sit in her car. He threatened her not to raise her alarm. The victim alleged that Gopi also threatened to kill her family. The victim said he got scared and sat in the back seat of the car. Two unknown young men were already sitting in the car.

The victim alleged that the suspects took her to a friend’s house near Ajnala Bypass, where Gopi raped her while his accomplices stood outside. They then dropped the victim behind the school.

The victim said she did not tell anyone what happened to her because she was scared. She then told her family about the incident. Police said raids were on to arrest Gopi and his unidentified accomplices.
