Two people detained in Ajnala firing case

A day after the Ajnala firing incident, police arrested two persons, identified as Varinder Singh and Sartaj Singh, in the case. Old enmity has been cited as the cause behind the incident.

Nice Kumar, the victim sustained injuries to his hand during the firing. Police have booked five people on charges under the Bid to Murder and Arms Act, besides other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

After the incident, Congress candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla, who was holding a rally at MR Palace in Baka Hari Singh village in Ajnala, very close to the shooting spot, accused AAP leaders of threatening residents to win elections. He blamed them.

Lovely told police that he had gone to attend Aujla’s rally. The victim said he felt thirsty and went to a shop across the road to drink sugarcane juice. He said Amandeep Singh, Sartaz Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Varinder Singh and Bunty arrived at the scene in a car and attacked him with sharp weapons, hitting him in the arm. It is said that Amandeep Singh then fired at the victim. One bullet struck the victim in the hand, and another struck the road near his feet. The victim managed to flee the scene and survived as the suspects fired several shots. The suspects then fled the scene and the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to SSP Amritsar (rural) police, the victim told the police that he had a long-standing argument with the suspects and a case has been filed in this regard. “We arrested Varinder Singh and Sartaz Singh, underwent medical examination and completed other legal formalities and admitted them to the hospital. Raids are on to nab the accomplices,” the SSP said. Ta.
