District Election Officer Ghanshyam Tohri has appealed to the Divyang and physically challenged to use the Saksham App during the Lok Sabha elections. He said disabled voters can register themselves on the day of polling and get convenient facilities like wheelchairs, transport, volunteers etc. The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple Store.

The District Election Officer said that as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, the district administration is making every effort to ensure maximum participation of disabled voters in the general elections. He directed all Assistant Election Officers (AROs) to provide maximum information about facilities for disabled people through the ‘Saksham App’ so that more needy people can avail these facilities. He instructed the officials to ensure proper arrangements like drinking water, cleanliness, wheelchairs, ramps etc at polling stations so that voters do not face any problem.

Tohri directed the officials visiting the polling stations and counting centres to ensure that trial running of voting machines is done properly at all polling stations. He also asked the divisional supervisors to ensure that trial running of tabletop voting machines is done in an orderly manner. Counting centres have been set up at nine places in Amritsar Assembly constituency and polling teams will be deployed from these centres and the machines will be placed in the vaults after the voting. Stringent security measures will be taken for this purpose, he said.
