SUV owner fined for using flipper on number plate : The Tribune India

The Ranjit Avenue police have registered a case against the owner of a Mahindra Thar for fitting an automatic flipper on the number plate of the vehicle, which is a direct violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, Varinder Singh Kotha, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North, said here today.

The owner, identified as Jaspal Singh, was fined Rs 6,000 for the violation and will have to appear before the court before paying the fine.

ACP Khosa said a video that recently went viral on social media showed the driver of a Thar vehicle bearing registration number PB-02-EQ-1301 flipping the number plate and scribbling “Attention all” on a black screen.The police’s social media wing has reported the matter to its senior officials.

He said the vehicle was registered in the name of Jaspal Singh of Golden Avenue area. The vehicle was immediately traced and fined by him. He said people should avoid modifying their vehicles in violation of the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The ACP said such acts would be dealt with severely and warned the vehicle owners to desist.
