Amritsar: Deputy Election Officer writes to police stations asking them to file election violations reports against those who have neglected their election duties.

Amritsar, May 24, 2024: Deputy Election Officer 02 of Amritsar South Constituency and Additional Commissioner of Amritsar Municipal Corporation, Surinder Singh has taken serious notice of those who have neglected their election duties and has written to the police to file an Election Violation Report against them on May 19, 2024 for dereliction of duties.

In a press release, the ARO-cum-Additional Commissioner said that 15 officials of various departments of the Punjab Government who were appointed as Chief Polling Officers of various polling stations remained absent during the rehearsal on May 19, 2024 at Sarp Rani Government College for Women.

He said he had instructed officials assigned to election duties to be present during the rehearsal and that any issues would be discussed with them, but these officials deliberately absented themselves and refused to give any reason for their absence.

He therefore wrote a letter to the ACP Police (North) Civil Lines Division, Amritsar, asking him to take action against these employees and file an FIR against them under Section 134 of the Representation of People Act, 1951. These employees are those of Markfed, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, SGTB Women’s College, BDPO Majita, GSSS Jitakaran, GSSS Putrigal, CAO, GSSS Sangana etc.
