Commuters using the toll plaza on the GT Road are upset with the BJP-led government at the Centre, citing inadequate infrastructure and inappropriate behaviour of officials.

A local group was quick to hint at this online a few weeks ago after a WhatsApp group was formed to publicise BJP candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu’s views and activism among various sections of society. Most of the group’s members are BJP supporters and leaders.

“FASTag machines charge exorbitant fines and there is no room for misconduct by toll plaza officials. The charge of around Rs 2 per kilometre is exorbitant and for commercial vehicles, Rs 6 per kilometre is equally exorbitant,” said one person.

Toll plaza officials sometimes behave like fools. Even at Jandiala toll plaza, they give multiple excuses that the FASTag machine is not reading the data. They charge exorbitant fines even when there is a balance in the FASTag. If there is not enough funds in the FASTag, a 200 percent fine is levied.
