Residents cheated out of Rs 1.15 lakh by online fraudsters

Rajiv Sachdeva, a resident of Katra Karam Singh, was duped by online fraudsters who made him believe that National Security Act (NSA) had been imposed on him as his mobile phone and Aadhaar card were used in a money laundering case.

He was duped by the fraudsters and transferred Rs 1.15 lakh to a bank account operated in West Bengal. On realising the fraud, he filed a police complaint against unidentified suspects.

After over two months of investigation, a case was registered at D-zone police station here and further investigation has been initiated in the matter.

Shukinder Singh, SHO of D-zone police station, said Rajiv Sachdeva received a call from a mobile number in February and the caller said that the government had imposed NSA as his mobile and Aadhaar card number had been used to open an account in a private bank.The caller said there had been suspicious transactions worth Rs 2 crore through the account and he had received Rs 2 lakh as commission.

The suspects demanded that he give them Rs 1.15 lakh as security, otherwise an arrest warrant would be issued and his family members would be questioned. The complainant said he became scared and transferred the amount to the suspects’ account.

Investigation revealed that the amount was transferred to a bank account in the name of Mrinmoy Misra in West Bengal.The amount was further diverted to a mobile number in the name of Chanderpal in Delhi and Sona Devi in ​​Uttar Pradesh.

The SHO said a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act has been registered against unidentified persons in this regard.
