Police arrest mastermind of honey trap attempted murder case

The city police on Monday arrested the main accused in a honey trap and attempt to murder case in Fatapur area.The accused, Karandeep Singh, a resident of Argon Khurd village in Pati area of ​​Tarn Taran district, was arrested after a hot pursuit through burning crop stubble fields.

He suffered burns on his legs as he was barefoot while fleeing from police. He ran several hundred metres before being arrested, said Dr Darpan Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner of Police, City I.

This is the fifth arrest in the case. Police had previously arrested Goindwal Sahib Jail inmate Rashpal Singh alias Rishi, Karan’s boyfriend Tejpreet Kaur, shooter Sajjan Pati and Jugraj Singh in connection with the case.

Giving details, Dr Ahluwalia said that a local resident, Gurjant Singh, sustained serious injuries when three people shot at him outside Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Centre on Chabal Road on March 15. Investigation revealed that the attack was masterminded by Rashpal Singh, an inmate of Goindwal Sahib Jail.

“Karandeep wanted to take revenge on behalf of Rashpal, who had met him while in judicial custody. Karan had trapped Gurjant through his girlfriend Tejpreet and summoned him outside Ramgarhia Gate near Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh. He and his accomplices reached there and shot dead Gurjant,” the ADCP said. Karan had registered an FIR in Tarun Taran and Islamabad for snatching, robbery, attempt to murder and under the NDPS Act. He was produced before the court and remanded in police custody.
