Amritsar: DAV celebrates Biodiversity Day


AMRITSAR: The Department of Biotechnology, Botany and Zoology, DAV College, Amritsar in collaboration with the Punjab Biodiversity Board and with the support of the National Biodiversity Authority and the Punjab Council for Science and Technology, celebrated International Biodiversity Day and World Environment Day. A session on the theme “Biotechnology promotes biodiversity and fosters bioeconomy” was organised by Prof. Pratap Kumar Pati, Head of Department of Biotechnology, Head of Department of Agriculture and Coordinator, GNDU Incubation Centre. In the Rangoli competition, Shri Ram Ashram Public School, Amritsar won the first prize, Police DAV Public School, Amritsar won the second position and DAV International School won the third position. In the slogan writing category, MK DAV Public School, Nesta Attari won first place, SSSS Modern School, Amritsar won second position and DAV Public School and DAV International School won third positions.

Discussion of educational issues

A discussion meeting on the issue of service oriented teachers was organised at Khalsa College of Education, GT Road with the assistance of the State Government (District and Block Mentors). Principal Khushvinder Kumar said that in the context of the new education policy, the problems arising in the present education system can be resolved with mutual cooperation among educational institutions at various levels.

Marboli Preservation Series begins

The CKD Dharam Prachar Committee in support of the Baba Deep Singh Federation organised a promotional event for Maa Bori at Sri Guru Harikrishan Public School, Majita Road Bypass on Tuesday. Renowned Punjabi scholars Dr Satish Verma, former head of Punjabi department, Punjab University, Dr Jasbir Singh Saber, former head of Guru Nanak Studies department, Guru Nanak Dev University and Dr Manjinder Singh, dean of Punjabi Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University, participated as speakers. Dr Satish elaborated on the progress of Punjabi language while Dr Jasbir Singh Saber said preservation of Punjabi should start from home by always speaking Punjabi with family members.

Organized Bazm-e-Qawwari

The Bhavna Kala Kendra under the management of Bhavan SL Public School hosted the Bazm-e-Qawwali, where the music team of Bhavan SL Public School performed Qawwali. Chairman BBK DAV Women’s College Sudarshan Kapoor and President of Indian Academy of Fine Arts Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna attended the program as guests of honour. Guest of Honour from Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar Dr Arvinder Singh Chamak thanked Chairman Avinash Mahendru and Principal Anita Bhalla for the occasion and congratulated the students for continuing to preserve the rich Indian culture among the students.
