SAD has turned Amritsar into a tourist hub: Sukhbir Badal

Amritsar, May 29 (PTI) Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday appealed to people of Amritsar constituency to support the party in the Lok Sabha elections and said it was the SAD that transformed the city into a tourist hub.

Speaking at a roadshow in support of SAD Amritsar candidate Anil Joshi, Badal said if his party returns to power in Punjab, it will seek resumption of trade with Pakistan and frame a special industrial policy for the border areas.

“Our heart is with ‘Guru ki Nagri’ (the city of Guru). That is why we created Virsati Marg as a tribute to the city, to develop it and boost tourism activities in the city.”

“We also developed the square around Sri Durbar Sahib and beautified the Durgiana temple and Ram Tirath. Tourism projects like Apna Pind and Partition Museum also came up in Amritsar under our government,” Badal said.

“Once in power, I will promise to invest Rs 15 billion to give the entire walled city a historic look. I will also seek reopening of the border with Pakistan to boost trade and frame a special industrial policy for the border areas,” he said.

Urging people to support the SAD, Badal said, “Look around, Amritsar has become a victim of apolitical apathy. Neither the Congress nor the AAP government has done anything for the holy city.” Badal was accompanied by SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and other party leaders. PTI CHS DIV DIV
