Malaysia Airlines to increase flights to Amritsar, boosting international connectivity in Punjab » Yes Punjab

Amritsar, June 1, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

In a notable development in Punjab’s international air links, Malaysia Airlines, a major Southeast Asian carrier, is set to expand its flights from Amritsar in the coming months.

This expansion will not only enhance connectivity between Punjab and Malaysia but also extend to South East Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand.

Lovelet Singh, an Amritsar-based independent aviation analyst, said Malaysia Airlines will launch three additional direct flights per week from Kuala Lumpur to Amritsar from August 2024, effectively increasing its frequency to Amritsar from the current four times a week to daily flights.

Since the airline began operations from Amritsar in November 2023, it has experienced a steady increase in demand, especially on routes to Australia and New Zealand via Kuala Lumpur, Singh added.

Initially, the airline will operate two flights per week from Amritsar and plan to increase this to four flights per week by January 2024 to meet growing demand.

These flights will be operated using the airline’s 737 aircraft, which have 12 Business Class seats and 162 Economy Class seats.

As of June 2024, Amritsar Airport boasts direct flights to over nine international cities, including London, Birmingham, Milan, Rome, Dubai, Sharjah, Doha, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

This connectivity is enabled by around 57 weekly international flights operated by over nine airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Qatar Airways, AirAsia X, Batik Air, Malaysia Airlines, Scoot and Neos Airlines.
